Quitting LLMs
I’m quitting LLMs for development.
- It turns programming into a slot machine
- Prevents you from learning deeply and using your brain
- Until the models get good enough to do everything, relying on them literally constrains the projects you try to complete
- It can trick you into thinking you know more than you do
So far, I’ve found that I don’t really miss LLMs - perhaps I’m being old fashioned, but there’s less of an impedance mismatch with how I naturally work. I still have to test whether I’m able to use LLMs more effectively once I return to them, having gained more knowledge about how to do engineering the old-fashioned way.
